The information presented on each test includes:

• normal ranges
• purpose of each test
• effect on value imposed by nutritional status
• clinical conditions that alter value
• explanation of the physiology, biochemistry or metabolism behind the change
• usefulness of the value in nutritional assessment

The objectives of the program are to address the following:

1. Which laboratory tests have nutritional implications?
2. How do these values vary in various clinical conditions?
3. What are the nutritional implications of each test?
4. How can these values be used in determining nutritional support?

Case studies are provided throughout the program to give you practice in applying the information and check the knowledge you have gained.
